Second Grade Food Chains & Food Webs 

The Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice Award is a reading enrichment program
of the Louisiana Center for the Book in the State Library of Louisiana. The
purpose of the program is to foster a love of reading in the children of Louisiana
by motivating them to participate in the recognition of outstanding books. WHAM and the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library work as a team to allow our students access to the LYRC books in order to participate in this great state-wide opportunity!
 
WHAM students in grades 3-5 have voted on their favorite Louisiana Young Readers Choice book.   The Secretary of State's Office staffed three voting machines for our election.
​Our school wide winner is Word of Mouse by James Patterson!
The runner up is FRAMED!  A T.O.A.S.T. Mystery by James Ponti.
 
 
 

Tyler Brooks S. received 3rd place for her essay entered in the Ernest Gaines Student Author Competition.  She along with eight other elementary, middle, and high school students were honored during the 2019 Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence Ceremony  at the  Manship Theatre. "What would happen in a world without books?" was the topic for the contest.  We are proud of Tyler!
